The St. Mary’s Church a Gothic church dominates the Main Market Square in Kraków. Its foundations date back to the early 13th century and serve as one of the best examples of Polish Gothic architecture. Standing 80 m (262 ft) tall, it is particularly famous for its wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss (Wit Stwosz). Stained glass windows are the oldest in Poland, some of its monumental polychrome murals were designed by Poland's leading history painter, Jan Matejko (1838–1893). In all they create a most unusual and most spectacular sight. In 1978 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside the Historic Centre of Kraków. Every hour, on the hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, a trumpet signal—called the Hejnał Mariacki—is played from the top of the higher of Saint Mary's two towers.
You will have the unique opportunity to attend an organ concert played on 2 types of organs, including an original organ from the 14th century. few pieces by Bach, Beethoven, will be performed and songs such as Ave Maria will be sung by the Krakow-based artist Maria Babicz. After the concert at 20.00 we will listen together to the trumpet signal from the Mariacka tower.
